About Better Verses

Better Verses exists for one small job: when something is on your mind, help you find the right Bible verse for it, and give you enough context to read it well.

A better verse isn’t a prettier one, and it isn’t a claim that some of Scripture matters more than the rest. It’s the verse whose context actually connects to your situation: the one you’d land on if you had time to read the whole passage and someone to explain who wrote it and why. That’s what we try to hand you in a few seconds.

Most verse sites are organized by book and chapter, or by a list of keywords that a machine pulled out. That works if you already know what you’re looking for. It doesn’t work at 2 a.m. when you can’t sleep, or the night before an interview, or when you’re standing in a card aisle trying to think of something to write. We organize by the moment instead.

What we do

What we don’t do

Which translation we use

Verses are quoted from the World English Bible (WEB), a modern English translation in the public domain. That means we can quote it in full, and you can copy, share, print, or write it in a card without worrying about licensing. If you prefer another translation, the reference is always shown so you can look it up in the one you use.

How the site is built

It’s a plain, fast website. No account, no app to install, and nothing you type into the search box is stored or sent anywhere. Read our selection method, our editorial policy, or get in touch if a verse looks wrong or a topic is missing.
