Editorial Policy

This page explains how content on Better Verses is written, reviewed, and corrected. It is short because the policy is simple.

Who writes the pages

Topic pages, verse notes, and the daily verse context are written and reviewed by the people who run this site. We use software to load the verse text accurately from the World English Bible and to build the site, but the choice of verses and the explanation of why each one fits are editorial decisions made by a person. We don’t publish pages that were generated in bulk from a keyword list.

Tone

Plainspoken and warm. We write the way you’d talk to a friend who asked for a verse, not the way a poster talks to a waiting room. No exclamation points, no guilt, no jargon. We assume you’re a capable adult who wants a good verse and a straight explanation.

What we won’t claim

• No medical advice. Pages about illness, surgery, sleep, or anxiety offer verses for the waiting and the worry. They are not treatment, and we say so on the page. If you’re in danger or in crisis, please contact local emergency services or a crisis line.
• No financial or legal advice. A verse about money is about your heart and your worry, not your budget.
• No guarantees. We don’t present scripture as a promise that a specific outcome will happen to you. Notes distinguish between a principle that carries and a promise made to a specific person in the text.
• No denominational position. Verses are chosen for how they speak to a situation, not to advance a tradition. Where traditions read a passage differently, we stick to what the passage plainly says.

Difficult topics

Some pages touch on grief, abuse, illness, or despair. On those pages we keep the notes gentle, avoid telling anyone how they should feel, and include a brief line pointing to real help. We never suggest that a verse should replace medical care, counseling, or leaving an unsafe situation.

Advertising and links

If the site shows ads, they are clearly separated from the verses and notes, and they never influence which verses we choose or what the notes say. If a link on the site earns us a commission, that is disclosed on our affiliate disclosure page. We don’t accept payment to include a verse, a product, or a link on a page.

Corrections

If a verse is misattributed, quoted wrongly, or placed on a page where its context doesn’t fit, we correct the page as soon as we can confirm the problem. Report anything you spot through the contact page. We’d rather hear about it than not.

Changes to this policy

If the way we work changes, this page will change with it. The date of the last significant update is kept in the site’s source history.
