Losing a job is a financial problem and an identity problem at the same time, and the second one often hurts more. These verses speak to both. They don't promise the next job by Friday. They do say you're not forgotten.

'Don't remember the former things... I will do a new thing.' Spoken to people who'd lost everything familiar. Job loss forces a new thing whether you wanted one or not; this verse says God is already at work in it, 'springing out now,' even before you can see it.

We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose.

'All things work together for good for those who love God.' Be careful with this one: it doesn't say the layoff was good, and it doesn't promise the next job will be better. It says God works through all of it, including the bad parts, toward good. That's the accurate reading, and it's enough.

An old man's testimony: he hasn't seen the righteous forsaken. It's one person's long-life observation, not a legal guarantee, but it's the kind of thing you need to hear from someone who's watched a lot of people go through a lot of things.

Read Psalm 34:18 first, and give the loss its due. Then, when you're ready to think about next steps, read Isaiah 43:18-19 and the whole of Matthew 6:25-34. Practical help, a friend who's been through it, a good adviser, isn't less spiritual than a verse.

No verse promises a specific job. The promises are about need being met and God going ahead of you. Reading Romans 8:28 as a job guarantee misreads it.
