Wisdom has a source. The chapter describes searching for it like silver, then says plainly it comes from God's mouth. That's why prayer and wisdom sit together throughout the Bible. Effort matters, but the origin is a gift. The verse sits between two ideas: the chapter opens with 'if you cry out for discernment' and then says wisdom comes from God's mouth. So the effort and the gift go together. Ask and look at the same time.
James 3:17
But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

James gives a checklist for real wisdom: pure, peaceful, gentle, reasonable, merciful, impartial, sincere. It's useful for testing advice, including your own. If a 'wise' course of action is harsh, self-serving, or divisive, this verse says it fails the test.
Proverbs 15:22
Where there is no counsel, plans fail; but in a multitude of counselors they are established.

Plans fail without counsel and succeed with many advisers. This is wisdom as a social practice: ask people. Proverbs repeats this idea several times, which suggests the writers knew how tempting it is to decide alone. The counsel in view isn't a crowd shouting opinions; 'advisers' in Proverbs are people with experience who will tell you the truth. Two or three of those are worth more than a poll, and far more than deciding alone.

The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom. The knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

'The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom' doesn't mean being scared. It means taking God seriously as the fixed point everything else is measured against. Wisdom that starts anywhere else, the proverb suggests, is built on sand. Chapter 9 sets two invitations side by side, from Wisdom and from Folly, using nearly identical words. Both sound appealing. The difference is where each one leads, which is why the starting point matters so much.
Psalm 90:12
So teach us to count our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Moses asks God to teach us to count our days, to remember they're limited. The result is 'a heart of wisdom.' Knowing your time is finite changes what seems worth doing. It's one of the oldest and plainest ways the Bible connects wisdom to mortality.
