An accident divides life at a single second, and the mind replays that second for months. These verses are for the days after: the hospital, the shock, the guilt that may not be rational and is real anyway, and the long recovery after the visitors stop. None of them explains why it happened. The Bible’s own answer to a collapsed tower killing eighteen people was that they were no worse than anyone else, and that is the honest answer here too.
Flashbacks, nightmares, and jumpiness are normal after an accident, and if they persist past a month they have a name and a treatment. Tell your doctor. And if the accident was your fault and you cannot stop replaying it, a counselor is the right next call, before any verse.

He will keep your going out and your coming in.” People in accidents sometimes read this bitterly, since it didn’t keep them from the crash. Read the middle line: he will keep your soul. The psalm’s promise is about what cannot be lost, and the accident proved that the body can be. That is a harder and truer comfort.
Isaiah 43:2
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, and flame will not scorch you.

When you pass through the waters, when you walk through the fire. When, not if. Isaiah writes it to people who have already been through the worst. The verse assumes the fire and promises company in it. For someone who literally walked out of one, it lands differently.

Near to the brokenhearted, and the crushed. For survivor’s guilt: the friend who lived when someone else didn’t, the driver who walked away. The verse does not ask whose fault it was. The nearness is a response to the crushing, not a verdict on the cause.

“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.” If you caused the accident, or believe you did, this is the verse, and it is not a loophole. It does not say what happened was fine. It says condemnation is not what is waiting for you. What is waiting is a way through, and that starts with saying what happened to someone.

Come to me, all who labor and are heavily burdened. Recovery is labor: the appointments, the pain, the paperwork, the fear of getting back in a car. The rest on offer is a burden that fits, carried alongside someone gentle.
The one I’d leave out
Romans 8:28 and “everything happens for a reason”. After a crash that killed someone, or maimed someone, “all things work together for good” sounds like the accident was for the best, and it wasn’t. Jesus, asked about eighteen people killed by a falling tower, refused to give a reason (Luke 13:4–5). Psalm 46:1 is what to send: present help, no explanation.
What to say with it
“I’m so glad you’re here.” Say it plainly. Survivors need to hear it.
“What do you need this week? Rides, meals, someone to sit with you at PT?” Then do it for months, not days.
If someone else died: say their name. Survivors are afraid to.
Don’t say: “It could have been worse,” or “At least…,” or anything about reasons. Don’t ask for the details.
How to use these verses
Psalm 46:1–3 the first night. Psalm 34:18 for the guilt. Psalm 30:2 during recovery, said as a hope. Romans 8:1 if you were driving. And a doctor’s attention if the second keeps replaying.
Jesus was asked a version of this about a tower that fell on eighteen people (Luke 13:4). He did not give a reason. He said they were no worse than anyone else. The Bible does not explain accidents; it promises presence in them and refuses to make them a verdict. I’d be careful of anyone who offers you more than that.
It was my fault. Is there anything for me?
Romans 8:1, and it is not a technicality. Then a counselor, and if there is someone to make amends to, a way to do it. The Bible is full of people who caused harm and were not defined by it; that is the story, not the exception.
