A new home is one of the few occasions where the Bible’s verses are about the exact thing: houses, doorways, households. These are the ones people write on the inside of a cabinet door, and one of them families have been carving over the entrance for three thousand years.

The blessing Aaron was told to say: keep you, shine on you, give you peace. Written in a card, it is a blessing on the household, and it has been said over doorways as long as there have been doorways. Nobody has ever minded receiving it.
The one I’d leave out
Matthew 7:24–27 (“built his house on the rock”). A parable about hearing and doing Jesus’ words, and it lands in housewarming cards as a comment on the foundation. Psalm 127:1 says the true thing about a house without turning the card into a sermon.
How to use these verses
