Memorial Day is for the dead; Veterans Day is for the living. People mix them up every year, and a Gold Star mother notices. These verses are sorted: for remembering the fallen, for thanking someone who served and came home, and for the family at a folded flag. None of them glorifies war. The Bible’s own picture of the end of history is swords beaten into plowshares, and that belongs on this page too.

“If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men.” For a veteran carrying what they did or saw, and for anyone who thinks a service on this day should end somewhere other than with the war. As much as it is up to you is honest about what a person can control, and it is a decent thing to send a soldier home with.
Romans 8:28. Sent to Gold Star families as comfort, and it sounds like the death was for the best. John 15:13 honors the laying down without explaining it away. And do not thank a Gold Star family for their service on Memorial Day; remember their dead by name.
